There’s nothing like a memorable Saturday night prior to the Early Signing Period for college football’s recruiting behemoth.
While Tua Tagovailoa was enjoying his celebrity status at the Heisman Trophy ceremony in lower Manhattan, Alabama flipped two of the top prospects in the 2019 class, landing five-star safety Dax Hill and four-star ballhawk Jeffery ‘Scooby’ Carter to strengthen its vice grip on the nation’s top-ranked haul, per the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.
“After signing arguably the nation’s top defensive backs class in 2018, Alabama is picking up right where it left off with 5-star safety Dax Hill and 4-star cornerback Jeffery Carter hopping aboard on Saturday evening,” BamaOnline recruiting insider Hank South said. “Hill has drawn Minkah Fitzpatrick comparisons while Carter is undoubtedly one of the freakiest defensive backs in cycle. Nick Saban has an embarrassment of riches to work with in the secondary for years to come.”
Hill, the No. 1 safety in the country per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, de-committed from Michigan and pledged with the Crimson Tide, saying it was a “tough decision” during an announcement on Twitter.
Carter, a one-time Alabama lean, was previously committed to Texas A&M before siding with the Crimson Tide and joining four-star inside linebacker Christian Harris who made the same decision last month. Carter is rated the No. 11 cornerback and the No. 91 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The Early Signing Period begins Dec. 19 and goes through Dec. 21. Prospects who do not sign in that three-day window won’t be able to again until Feb. 6.
