Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama offense may be best I’ve ever coached against

When the bulk of your coaching career is at Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M and Arkansas, you see a lot of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Arkansas DC John Chavis has been a college football assistant coach since 1979, when he started as a graduate assistant at Tennessee. After facing Alabama for the 31st time in his career, including 25th time as defensive coordinator, Chavis described the 2018 Tide as “maybe the best offense I’ve coached against” in his Monday press conference.

As a long-time SEC defensive coordinator, Chavis has coached against Steve Spurrier’s Fun ‘N’ Gun in its heyday as well as SEC legends such as Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Johnny Manziel and others.

As many teams are finding out, the 2018 Alabama offense with Tua Tagovailoa at signal-caller surrounded by a supporting cast of blue-chip talent is virtually unstoppable. The Crimson Tide scored 65 points and gained 639 yards of total offense on Saturday against the Razorbacks.

Chavis is far from alone when it comes to thinking that this Alabama offense is one of the best ever in college football.
