Alabama retakes No. 1 spot in recruiting rankings

After a two and half month absence atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, Alabama has retaken the top spot over Texas A&M.

The Crimson Tide holds a score of 287 to the Aggies’ 286.94.

Alabama held the lead in the rankings for much of the spring and summer during a stretch that saw 18 new commitments join its class 2019 class.

Last February, the Tide signed the No. 6 class in the country, snapping its seven-year streak of No. 1 classes. Alabama added former 247Sports 5-star linebacker Ale Kaho in August to boost its finish to No. 5.

The movement in the team standings comes as rankings across the industry have been updated to affect overall player ratings on the 247Sports Composite. Also, former No. 1 Georgia lost a trio of commitments in the last week that separated Alabama and Texas A&M atop the standings.

Alabama’s top-rated commitment is 5-star offensive tackle Pierce Quick out of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.). The 6-foot-5, 287-pounder committed to the program in April of 2017 and has since been the class leader, helping recruit some of the top talent in the nation to join him in Tuscaloosa.

Other highly-rated pledges include 4-star defensive end Antonio Alfano who is putting together a stellar senior season campaign at Colonia (N.J.) High School. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder is one of the more athletically-gifted defensive lineman we’ve seen in some time and he’s putting that on full display this season.

Joining Quick as an intricate member of the current offensive line haul is 4-star tackle Amari Kight of Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson. Like Quick, Kight is tasked with protecting a future Alabama quarterback in 4-star signal caller Taulia Tagovailoa (Quick keeps 4-star quarterback Paul Tyson upright).

Alabama holds a big commitment at a position of need from 4-star inside linebacker Shane Lee, who’s rated the No. 5 inside linebacker in the nation. Lee is a former teammate of 5-star edge rusher and Tide freshman Eyabi Anoma and figures to be a big piece of UA’s defense in the future.

Another Top100 Tide pledge is 4-star edge rusher Kevin Harris of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson. The future Jack linebacker is putting together a big-time senior campaign, recording multiple sacks through the first half of the season.

Four-star cornerback Christian Williams of Daphne (Ala.) is also having a nice outing through the first half of the season. The nation’s No. 94 overall player is contributing on both defense and special teams.

Rounding out the Top100 at the No. 100 overall spot is 4-star safety Demarcco Hellams of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic who offers a lot of versatility in what he’s able to do.

And that’s just the Top100. You can see the rest of Alabama’s 2019 class by clicking here.
