Alabama’s All-SEC tight end is expected to turn pro.
Irv Smith is expected to enter the NFL draft, sources told AL.com.
Smith’s father was a first-round draft pick as a tight end back in 1993. Now, he may soon be one, too.
The Louisiana native was one of the Crimson Tide’s top offensive weapons as a junior this past season and broke the school single-season records for tight ends with 710 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
“Irv is a really good player,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said during the season. “… He does all phases of what we do well. He’s a good receiver. He’s a good off-the-ball blocker. He’s a good on-the-ball blocker. He’s got really good hands and he’s a good receiver and he’s fast enough to be a threat down the field.”
