Alabama defeated the Missouri Tigers 39-10 on Saturday, with Tagovailoa throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns.
He re-injured his knee during the game, but the problem doesn’t appear to be too serious. Head coach Nick Saban said Monday he planned on having Tagovailoa at practice, per Alabama beat reporter Marq Burnett.
A significant knee injury is seemingly the only thing that could derail Tagovailoa’s Heisman campaign at this point. The gap between the second and third spots on the Heisman odds list also shows how the field may be narrowing around the true contenders.
The top of the title odds list provides little in the way of surprises, with Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame sitting first through fourth in the Associated Press Top 25 and Amway Coaches Polls.
The fact the Georgia Bulldogs (16-1) have better championship odds than the LSU Tigers (30-1) isn’t much of a shock either, despite Georgia falling 36-16 to LSU over the weekend.
The Bulldogs have an easier road the rest of the way. They play the No. 11 Florida Gators in Jacksonville, Florida, on Oct. 27 before hitting the road against the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats.
The Tigers host the No. 22 Mississippi State Bulldogs before a date with the top-ranked Crimson Tide. LSU ends the year on the road against the No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies as well. Ed Orgeron has silenced his critics so far in 2018 with his team’s 6-1 start, but the team’s schedule makes it hard to see how LSU can run the table the rest of the way.
