Cavaliers struggle to hit shots in loss to Crimson Tide | Cavalier Insider

The Virginia women’s basketball team suffered a 64-52 loss to Alabama on Thursday in the opening game of the World Class Basketball Florida Sunshine Classic Tournament at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

The Cavaliers (4-7) continue to struggle without center Felicia Aiyeotan, who missed her seventh-straight game with a knee injury. The Cavaliers are 2-5 since Aiyeotan’s injury.

Virginia struggled shooting the ball, finishing 28.8 percent (19-of-66) from the field. The worst stretch came at the start of the fourth quarter, when the Cavaliers missed their first seven shots. The Crimson Tide were not much better, making 34.3 percent of their field goal attempts (23-of-67).

Junior guard Dominique Toussaint led Virginia in scoring, finishing with 12 points. She was one of three Cavaliers to finish the game in double figures. Brianna Tinsley scored 11 points, while Jocelyn Willoughby chipped in 10 points. Willoughby has now scored in double figures in eight of the last nine games.

Junior forward Lisa Jablonowski scored eight points and led the Wahoos’ defensive efforts with 10 rebounds while also blocking three shots. Jablonowski has recorded double-digit rebounds in each of the past three games.

Jordan Lewis led Alabama (8-4) with 25 points. Jasmine Walker had a double-double, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Crimson Tide.

Virginia closes out the tournament by taking on South Florida on Friday at 4 p.m.
