247Sports Composite five-star offensive lineman Evan Neal is expected to make his final commitment decision on Wednesday, the first day of the Early Signing Period. The IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) product is ranked as the No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 20 overall player in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite.
The Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, Oklahoma Sooners, Florida State Seminoles and Florida Gators are considered the finalists to land a commitment from Neal on Wednesday. As of Tuesday night, the 247Sports Crystal Ball projections favored Neal to sign with Alabama (86 percent of predictions) followed by Miami (10 percent of predictions).
Neal’s mother, Sheila Neal, recently spoke to Dawgs247’s Kipp Adams about the offensive lineman’s process for weighing his top school options. 247Sports VIP members can see her full comments ahead of Neal’s commitment by clicking here.
“At the end of the day, basically what we do as parents, we make sure Evan vets the programs that have a lot of the boxes for what we’re looking for for our son,” Sheila Neal said. “Once we look at these programs, we leave it up to Evan. He’ll sit down and he’ll vet from that point there. We can be happy with any of the six schools Evan has featured on his flyer for his commitment day. To be honest, I really don’t know at this point. Every school on that flyer, we’ve given those schools serious looks. It’s up to him.”
As a 6-foot-7 1/2, 360-pound prospect, Neal projects to be an impact player on the offensive line at the college level.
“A massive body with extremely long arms,” 247Sports recruiting insider Luke Stampini wrote in his scouting report of Neal. “At his size, capable of engulfing defensive linemen. A strong and powerful offensive lineman with above average mobility given his size. Needs to control his weight and not become too heavy to play the position while also continuing to improve quickness. Impact Power-Five prospect with high round NFL draft upside.”
Neal is scheduled to announce which school he will be signing with live on ESPNU at 1:45 p.m. CT.
