at Neyland Stadium, Knoxville

Alabama.. 28 .. 14 .. 16 .. 0 .. — 58

FIRST QUARTER

UA 10:58 — Jerry Jeudy 11 pass from Tua Tagovailoa (Joseph Bulovas kick)

9 plays, 58 yards, 4:02

If you believe in silver linings, there was one for Tennessee on the first drive of the game. The Crimson Tide extended their streak of scoring on its first possession to eight times in eight games, but it took them longer than it had all any other time this season. The Vols did well to force Alabama into a 3rd-and-10 situation, but Tagovailoa passed to a wide open Jaylen Waddle a few yards from the line to gain. Waddle ran between three defenders to pick up the necessary yardage. Four plays later Tagovailoa threw over Jeudy’s shoulder for a touchdown in the right side of the end zone. | UA, 7-0

UA 10:35 — Josh Jacobs 3 run (Bulovas kick)

2 plays, 3 yards, 0:08

The Crimson Tide were set up inside the Tennessee 5-yard line after a turnover. Xavier McKinney hit Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano in the pocket and forced a fumble. The ball went backwards 22 yards and was recovered by Alabama’s Christian Miller on the 3.| UA, 14-0

UA 8:08 — Waddle 77 pass from Tagovailoa (Bulovas kick)

1 play, 77 yards, 0:11

As if the Crimson Tide were angry it took them so long to score on the opening possession, they didn’t mess around the next time they had to go more than three yards to score. Tagovailoa ignored two receivers who were more open than Waddle but threw it to him anyway over two defenders. | UA, 21-0

UA 3:31 — Damien Harris 3 run (Bulovas kick)

9 plays, 93 yards, 2:44

Alabama proved it can take its time, too. Half of the yardage gained came on two passes to Jeudy. The Vols gave them some help early in the drive when freshman defensive back Alontae Taylor was flagged for a personal foul and ejected for slapping an Alabama player on the helmet. Tennessee safety Nigel Warrior had a great opportunity to make an interception in the end zone but dropped the ball. | UA, 28-0

SECOND QUARTER

UT 7:21 — Ty Chandler 10 pass from Keller Chryst (Brent Cimaglia kick)

5 plays, 75 yards, 2:51

Tennessee showed signs of life in the passing game with a 30-yard pass from Guarantano to Josh Palmer and a 26-yard pass from Keller Chryst to Ty Chandler. Chryst was in the game because Guarantano was hit hard as he threw to Palmer. Palmer was down for a while after the play, too. Chandler’s touchdown came on Chryst’s third play. | UA, 28-7

UA 4:23 — Jacobs 2 run (Bulovas kick)

43 plays, 8 yards, 2:58

The Crimson Tide nixed any hope Tennessee had of building momentum by answering its first scoring drive with another one of their own. Alabama did it mostly on the ground, too. Tagovailoa completed only one pass on the drive. | UA, 35-7

UT 2:18 — Tyler Byrd 20 pass from Chryst (Cimaglia kick)

6 plays, 81 yards, 1:58

Chryst targeted Jauan Jennings on four consecutive plays with two completions. The biggest play of the drive came on a flea-flicker when Chryst passed down the middle to Jennings, who got behind the safeties. Jennings tried to fight for extra yardage once the defense caught up, and he fumbled. Luckily for the Vols, he recovered. Two plays later, Chryst threw a dart to Byrd, and Byrd scored on his first catch of the season.| UA, 35-14

UA 0:15 — Irv Smith Jr. 9 pass from Tagovailoa (Bulovas kick)

9 plays, 85 yards, 2:01

Tagovailoa worked the two-minute drill to perfection and ended it with his third touchdown pass. He even gained a first down on 3rd-and-5 with a 6-yard run. Tagovailoa missed on his first pass attempt during the drive but completed the next six. The last three and four of the last five went to Smith. | UA, 42-14

THIRD QUARTER

UA 14:52 — Safety, Chryst rush for loss of 3 yards

1 play, (-3) yards, 0:08

The safety was bad enough for the Vols, but after Chryst handed off to Jeremy Banks, Banks gained one yard and then taunted an Alabama player. That got him a 15-yard penalty, which meant Tennessee’s free kick came from its own 10-yard line.| UA, 44-14

UA 12:53 — Henry Ruggs 41 pass from Tagovailoa (Bulovas kick)

4 plays, 54 yards, 1:54

Three ho-hum plays got Alabama off to a ho-hum start on the drive following the safety, but then Tagovailoa gave everybody something to marvel at. With Tennessee linebacker Daniel Bituli running at his chest Tagovailoa stood his ground and delivered a perfect pass to Ruggs down the right hash mark for a touchdown. It took the quarterback a few moments to get up, but he was fine. | UA, 51-14

UT 5:17 — Kyle Phillips 27 interception return (Cimaglia kick)

Alabama drive: 2 plays, 3 yards, 0:50

Tennessee defensive back Baylen Buchanan pressured QB Jalen Hurts and tipped his pass. Phillips caught the deflection on the left side of the line while engaged with a lineman. Phillips fought off a handful of tackle attempts on his way to the end zone. | UA, 51-21

UA 1:03 — Jalen Hurts 21 run (Bulovas kick)

8 plays, 70 yards, 4:06

Given a second chance to make something positive happen for the Crimson Tide, Hurts delivered with a touchdown run that turned out to be pretty easy after he stepped up into the pocket and then escaped through the right side. Before that, running back Najee Harris had carried six consecutive plays for 37 yards. | UA, 58-21
