TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama men’s basketball team hosts the Appalachian State Mountaineers tonight at Coleman Coliseum. The game will tip off at 6 p.m. CT (SEC Network).

— Officials for tonight: Pat Adams, Steven Anderson and John Hampton. 

— Alabama basketball’s starting five vs. Appalachian State: Kira Lewis, John Petty, Herbert Jones, Galin Smith and Donta Hall.


— Kira Lewis, in his second straight start, scores the first points of the game for Alabama — a three. 

— At the first media timeout (15:56), Alabama leads App. State, 11-5. The Crimson Tide is on a 6-0 run, and Kira Lewis has 6 points. 

— Dazon Ingram (ankle) enters the game, making his regular-season debut. 

Alabama 15, App. State 15 (11:06, 1H) — UA is 1 for its last 7 from the field. 

— App. State 20, Alabama 19 (7:48, 1H) — Ronshad Shabazz has a game-high 12 points for the Mountaineers on 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Herbert Jones will go to the FT line after the media timeout.

— Alabama 29, App. State 22 (5:05, 1H) — UA is on a 12-2 run, led by Kira Lewis and his 13 points. Timeout, Mountaineers. 

— At the last media timeout of the 1H, Alabama leads App. State, 29-27, with 3:42 left in the half. 

— Halftime: Alabama 38, App. State 35 — John Petty drains a triple just before the buzzer. 


— At the first media timeout of the 2H (15:50), Appalachian State leads Alabama, 45-42.

— Tevin Mack gets a technical for hanging on the rim after a dunk. 

— App. State 56, Alabama 52 (11:36, 2H) — Daniel Giddens is fouled after a layup and will go to the line for an and-one opportunity after the media timeout. 

— Alabama 60, App. State 57 (8:36, 2H) — The Tide retakes the lead thanks to a 6-0 run over the last 2:00. 

— Alabama 64, App. State 59 (6:58, 2H) — Timeout for injured ASU player. 

— Kira Lewis cleans up his own miss to push Alabama’s lead over Appalachian State to 69-61.

— At the final media timeout (3:49), it’s Alabama 71, App. State 61. 

Final: Alabama 81, Appalachian State 73 — Kira Lewis leads the way with 21 points. Donta Hall had a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds). The Crimson Tide advances to 2-0, will next face Northeastern on Nov. 15, in Charleston, S.C. 


— John Petty: “We showed a lot of maturity, especially with Kira (Lewis) coming up with 21 points.” 

— Avery Johnson: “Lots of highs and lows with this game tonight. I thought we showed some signs of maturity. I don’t know if we would have won this game last year.” 

— Johnson on Kira Lewis: “He’s working hard. Young guy, working hard and getting better and better. His start early in the game was a big boost for us.”

— Johnson said he wants to see Tevin Mack get more minutes at the four when teams go small against Alabama.

— Johnson on Dazon Ingram (ankle), who had 8 points and 8 rebounds in 21 minutes: “This kid has spent more time with our athletic trainer than anybody on our team. It’s basically like they live together in the training room. But he’s been able to fight through adversity.” 

— Johnson on Herbert Jones’ struggles from the FT line: “He’s a much better free-throw shooter than he showed tonight.

“… I voted last Tuesday, and if Herb Jones was running for office, I would vote for him because he’s made of the right stuff. He’s got the right DNA.”
