— Murray State’s Ja Morant, who had 38 points, asked if this Alabama team had the toughest defense he’s faced in his career: “I think so, just because of their length and athleticism.” 

— Ja Morant on Alabama’s crowd cheering for him after his final dunk of the game: “I appreciate the fans for that. I was just really hoping that we could have come out with a win.” 

— John Petty on Ja Morant: “Nine times out of 10, you see guys on film and when they come in the building, they’re not the same. He’s exactly what we saw on film — a great player.” 

— John Petty on next facing UCF: “We’re going to go down to Florida and try to get some payback.”

— Avery Johnson on Kira Lewis: “He’s doing good. He’s learning every day, growing. He just loves the cafeteria, he loves to eat. He’s early to all his classes. … He’s just got to continue to grow and develop.” 

— Avery Johnson on Donta Hall’s struggles: “He’s just got to get better, got to keep getting stronger and finish inside. And we’ve got to get him the ball a little more.” 

— Avery Johnson: “My focus right now tonight, probably about 12:30 in the morning when everybody’s sleeping in my house — including my little dog that’s four pounds — I’ll have my coffee pot out and I’ll watch our game and break it down.” Then comes prep for UCF tomorrow.
