For the 2018 University of Alabama football season, TideSports’ Terrin Waack will provide select stellar stats, obscure facts and notable quotes from the most recent game to show how the Crimson Tide uses “The Process” against its opponents.
No. 1 Alabama defeated then-No. 4 Georgia 35-28 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday in front of 77,141 people in the SEC Championship Game.
• Georgia has lost two championship titles — one national, one conference — to Alabama’s backup quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa helped lead the Crimson Tide to its national title last season, replacing starter Jalen Hurts. This time, Hurts replaced Tagovailoa when UA needed him most and brought the Crimson Tide back to win.
• Alabama’s Josh Jacobs, who tweeted he had flu-like symptoms before the game, was named the Most Valuable Player. He rushed for 86 yards on just eight carries and scored two touchdowns. He’s the third Crimson Tide running back to take home the honor and the sixth to have multiple rushing scores in the conference title game.
• This is Alabama’s sixth consecutive SEC championship win — 2009, 2012, 2014-16 and 2018.
• The Crimson Tide pulled off the largest comeback in SEC championship history, saving itself from a 14-point deficit.
