Alabama fans will have the opportunity to watch one heck of a high school football game on Saturday night as the St. Frances Academy Panthers (9-0) face off with the Lee County Trojans (15-0) in the GEICO State Champions Bowl at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
As Crimson Tide fans are well aware, the Panthers roster has a pair of Alabama signees in 4-star inside linebacker Shane Lee and 4-star offensive guard Darrian Dalcourt, as well as a top 2020 commitment in 5-star edge rusher Chris Braswell.
On the way to an undefeated season up to this point on the calendar, St. Frances’ starting 11 on defense have allowed zero points all year. Lee has been a major part of that effort, tallying 61 tackles, 4.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups in the teams eight victories (one win was decided by forfeit). On the other side of the ball, the Panthers’ offense has amassed a 379-18 scoring differential.
St. Frances will need to bring its A-game on Saturday night as it faces what will likely be its toughest test of the season in Lee County. The Trojans of Leesburg, Ga. are coming off an undefeated season as well and a Class 6A state championship.
Lee County may not have the same number of Division I caliber players that St. Frances does, but it features some talented prospects like 3-star cornerback Jammie Robinson, 3-star cornerback Tavian Mayo, 3-star defensive tackle and Minnesota signee DeAngelo Carter, 2021 inside linebacker Baron Hopson and 2021 wide receiver Chauncey Magwood. Like St. Frances, the Trojans’ defense has thwarted opponents throughout the season. Lee County’s scoring differential is 624-77.
Alabama will welcome both Lee and Dalcourt to campus next month after both signed with Alabama on Wednesday. Lee, the No. 5 inside linebacker and the No. 70 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, fills a major position of need for the Tide at the inside linebacker spot. Dalcourt, the No. 18 guard and the No. 331 overall player in the country, will compete along the interior of the offensive line in his tenure at the Capstone. As for Braswell, the No. 1 weak-side defensive end and the No. 18 overall player in the country, he’s the marquee commitment for the Tide’s recruiting efforts in the 2020 cycle. The elite edge rusher committed to the Tide following a visit for the Iron Bowl.
