There’s been a lot of love for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagavailoa this season. But as part of the norm in the sports media world, there will always be a counterargument.
On Thursday, Sirius Satellite Radio Gabe Ikard pushed back on the idea that Tagavailoa is the best player in college football, arguing that Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray “means more” to the Sooners than Tagavailoa does to Alabama.
Former LSU running back Jacob Hester immediately pushed back, arguing in favor of the Crimson Tide signal caller.
“Yeah, ok. You’re playing against the Big 12 defenses. Right? Tua Tagavailoa is doing it against Grant Delpit, Devin White, Andraez Williams of LSU. He’s doing it against that defensive front the Mississippi State. He’s doing it against Texas A&M’s defensive front. He’s doing it against much better defenses than Kyler Murray.
“We’ve never seen an Alabama quarterback do what Tua Tagavailoa is doing. He’s a special player. That’s nothing against Kyler Murray, but when you are playing the competition he’s playing — he’s playing future first-round draft picks on defense every single week, and he’s doing like no one has ever done it at one of the best programs in college football history.

While Tagavailoa is dealing with a knee injury at the moment, he’s still be spectacular this season. He has thrown for 2,525 yards, 28 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions while not playing a majority of the fourth quarters this season.
