What Citadel coach Brent Thompson said about playing Alabama

There’s David vs. Goliath and then there’s The Citadel vs. Alabama, a triple-option team from the Southern Conference matched with college football’s modern-day dynasty, the standard for elite, national title-winning programs.

How can a team made up of no-stars, traveling to Tuscaloosa for a check, compete on Saturday with the defending national champions?

“It’ll take all that we can do just to be able to move the football and stop them from scoring, but I’m certainly thinking we’re going to give them everything that we’ve got,” Citadel coach Brent Thompson said this week. “We’ve gotten beat before.”

The Bulldogs aren’t backing down from the opportunity of a lifetime for most of his players, Thompson says, a chance to compete against Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
