The 2018 College Football Playoff Selection Show will air on Sunday, as we learn which teams will compete for the national championship later this month.
ESPN will air the showing beginning at 11 a.m. Central (noon Eastern). During the four-hour broadcast, the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings and the New Year’s Six Bowl pairings will be announced.
Alabama (13-0), Clemson (13-0) and Notre Dame (12-0) are virtually assured to fill three of the four playoff slots, though the final spot could be any of three teams: Oklahoma, Ohio State and Georgia.
Oklahoma, ranked No. 5 coming into the weekend, beat Texas 39-27 in the Big 12 championship game. The Sooners are 12-1.
Ohio State, ranked No. 6, topped Northwestern 45-24 to win the Big Ten title. The Buckeyes are also 12-1.
Georgia, ranked No. 4, lost to Alabama 35-28 in the SEC championship. The Bulldogs are 11-2.
Likely to be on the outside looking in is No. 8 Central Florida, which rallied past Memphis 56-41 in the American Athletic Conference championship game. The Knights (12-0) have the nation’s longest winning streak at 24 games.
The year’s College Football Playoff semifinals, the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl, take place on Saturday, Dec. 29. The College Football Playoff national championship game is Monday, Jan. 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
